Examinei a peça ilustrada acima (na data indicada) e certifico, no melhor do meu conhecimento, que o Bilhete-Carta de 50 réis enviado no Rio de Janeiro em 2 de dezembro de 1883, franqueado com o selo azul Dom Pedro II “Cabeça Pequena” de 50 réis, é autêntico.

A peça apresenta obliteração manuscrita sobre o selo, carimbo circular do Rio de Janeiro datado de 2 de dezembro de 1883 e carimbo retangular “1ª”.

O texto manuscrito enviado por Alfredo Dias Corrêa a Bernardo A. Pinheiro menciona uma misteriosa “mania”, posteriormente esclarecida por outra correspondência conhecida entre os mesmos correspondentes.

Trata-se de um importante documento da história da filatelia brasileira, constituindo um dos três exemplares conhecidos desta curiosa correspondência.

A peça apresenta carimbo circular do Rio de Janeiro e carimbo retangular “3ª”.

Na mensagem enviada por Bernardo A. Pinheiro a Alfredo Dias Corrêa, o remetente agradece o recebimento de dois bilhetes-carta e elogia a beleza de suas obliterações, esclarecendo que a “mania” mencionada na correspondência posterior referia-se ao interesse comum dos correspondentes pela filatelia.

I have examined the item illustrated above on the date indicated and certify, to the best of my knowledge, that the 50 reis Letter-Card mailed in Rio de Janeiro on December 2, 1883, bearing the blue 50 reis Dom Pedro II “Small Head” stamp, is genuine.

The item bears a manuscript cancellation on the stamp, a Rio de Janeiro circular datestamp of December 2, 1883, and a rectangular “1ª” marking.

The handwritten message from Alfredo Dias Corrêa to Bernardo A. Pinheiro refers to a mysterious “mania,” later explained by another known correspondence exchanged between the same correspondents.
